The song has been performed by a variety of recording artists, and it served as the inspiration for Meghan Trainor's debut single "All About That Bass" (2014).

Mars, Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine, Khalil Walton, and Needlz wrote the song, which was produced by the former three, known as the Smeezingtons, alongside Needlz. On August 10, 2010, it debuted on contemporary hit radio in the United States. On September 19, 2010, the tune was released in the United Kingdom under the title "Just the Way You Are (Amazing)". The song's lyrics praise a woman's beauty.

Music critics gave the debut song mixed reviews, praising the Smeezingtons' production but describing the lyrics as sentimental and clichéd. It won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 53rd Grammy Awards. The song reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and United Kingdom charts, as well as the top five in several other countries.
