"We Are the World" is a charity single released by the ensemble USA for Africa in 1985. The song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. With sales exceeding 20 million copies, it is the ninth-best-selling physical single of all time.

Soon after the British group Band Aid recorded "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984, musician and activist Harry Belafonte decided to record an American benefit single for African hunger relief. Ken Kragen invited numerous musicians to participate in the event. Jackson and Richie finished their writing the night before the first recording session, on January 21, 1985. Some of the most well-known musicians of the time attended the event.

On March 7, 1985, Columbia Records released "We Are the World" as the album's first single. It topped music charts throughout the world and became the best-selling U.S. pop single in history. "We Are the World" was awarded quadruple platinum, making it the first single to be certified multiplatinum.

It has four Grammy Awards, one American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award.
